In November 2011, Nazaré made history when Garrett McNamara entered the Guinness World Records after riding a colossal 78-foot (24 m) wave at Praia do Norte.
Since then, this small fishing town has become the ultimate stage for nature’s raw power.
We’ll take you straight to the best vantage point to witness the giant waves — Sítio da Nazaré, beside the iconic São Miguel Arcanjo Lighthouse (Fortress) on the northern cliffs.
This is where the action happens. When conditions are right, surfers from all over the world gather here, many spending the entire big-wave season in Nazaré, ready to ride whenever the ocean awakens.
After the adrenaline of the Atlantic, we slow things down with a visit to Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval walled town founded in 1157, where stepping through the gates feels like travelling back in time.

A moderate amount of walking is involved, comfortable shoes are recommended. Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately, considering Sintra has a micro-climate.

Alternatively and upon request, Reception of Sunset Destination Hostel, Cais do Sodre Train Station, 1st floor. Praça Duque de Terceira, Lisbon. Look for the door next to red flag, outside the train station, facing the square/garden, and press the doorbell.
