The weirdest yet tastiest food Portugal has to offer. Are you brave enough?
Our alternative food tour takes you through Mouraria, still one of the most untouched of Lisbon’s neighbourhoods, and into the heart of portuguese tradition. Don’t expect any fancy restaurants and please forget about all things gourmet. Stuff that doesn’t look good on social media — but sure tastes good. Food that you cannot find on your guidebook — or anywhere else!
We’re here to take you on a yelp-free diet, away from the cod fish everyone talks about. We will not take you all the fancy restaurants you read about and can explore on your own. The purpose of this tour is to for you to try the most “weird” and surprising dishes of the Portuguese cuisine. From Liver, Pork’s ears, Cow’s hoof, Rooster Bloody Rice, Pork rinds, snails, guts, etc., you will be surprised how creative Portuguese Gastronomy can be! Besides this promising combination of ingredients, there are some fusion dishes fruit of the ex-colonies, full of stories that our guides will be happy to share. Drinking will be part of the digestion process once you tried the “Burning Water” or água ardente. We will take you into one of the most authentic Lisbon neighbourhoods, still quite preserved from the tourist invasion where you will meet the locals, enjoy quality food and drinks. If you think you are a brave foodie, welcome a board, we will be happy to share a table with you, your family and friends. If you survive till the end and eat all the specialties our guides suggest, you will receive your very own “Brave Foodies” diploma!
The number of dishes (min. 4) will vary according to the number of people in the tour, so the more the merrier! This tour is based on fresh ingredients which need to be order specially for you. Please book at least 3 days in advance of the tour date.
